Capacity Building

PMS’s Capacity Building program aims to empower and enhance the capabilities and skills of the staff and the sector.

The Need:

  • There is always a need for capacity building of staff for better leadership skills, efficiency, output and overall motivation.
  • There is a lack of understanding amongst outside individuals outside the NGO sector and this helps to build awareness
  • Along with working within the organization it is important to also build the capacity of other NGOs, to help them become better and more efficient in their work.

Impact:

  • There has been an overall improvement in staff skills and leadership qualities as well as an improvement in computer, language, and documentation skills
  • Individuals working outside of the voluntary sector have a better understanding and greater awareness about the work Seva Mandir does and the challenges with face as both an organization and a sector.
  • New relationships are being formed both with other individuals as well as other organizations within the sector.

Current Situation:

  • This year there have been a series of capacity building workshops including English Classes and leadership building workshops.
  • People’s Management School also organized an Annual Camp as an opportunity for the organization as a whole to discuss various themes and ideas related to development.

Future Challenges:

  • Given the large amount of work done by each individual employee it can be hard to find common times to organize workshops and capacity building trainings and motivate people to show up.
  • At our trainings, the interests of people are so diverse that it can be difficult for the trainer to manage different skills levels and focuses.
