Work on HIV/AIDS
Seva Mandir provides care to people living with HIV and AIDS and works to improve awareness on HIV and AIDS especially amongst adolescents.
The need:
- HIV/AIDS is a highly stigmatized disease which often prevents patients from acknowledging the disease and seeking care.
- There is a lot of discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS
- Adolescents are a highly vulnerable demographic due to lack of knowledge and high-risk behaviors.
- People living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) require a range of services, care, treatment and support depending on the progression and stage of the HIV infection.
- Prevention is only one part of addressing the problem; care of PLHA’s is another critical issue requiring attention.
Current Status
- Seva Mandir is conducting workshops for adolescents from rural communities on reproductive and sexual health and HIV/AIDS, to provide awareness and understanding.
- Seva Mandir has established and runs a Community Care Center (CCC) providing range of services to PLHA’s from Udaipur and the neighboring districts
Impact
- There is an increased awareness and understanding on reproductive health issues amongst adolescents.
- Since the establishment of the CCC in June 2008, Seva Mandir has reached out to 1627 PLHA’s.
