The long-term strategy of Seva Mandir focuses on creating the social, institutional, and livelihood base for a democratic and participatory approach to development that benefits and empowers the poorest sections of society.  This is achieved through the following overlapping strategic objectives:

• To create and strengthen institutions for development (at the village, organization and society levels).
• To enhance people’s capabilities for self-development (both at the individual and community level).
• To create sustainable improvements in the livelihoods base.
